Dallas, TX— The 8th Annual Chick-fil-A Texas vs. The World Baseball Championship Tournament is set for October 28-30 in Dallas and other Metroplex locations. The event features three age groups of players (14U, 16U, 18U) and as many as 50 teams and 650 players hailing from both Texas and Puerto Rico. The event commences on Friday, October 28th with the “Workout,” a pro-style baseball workout to be followed by a game between Texas and Puerto Rico. Friday’s events will be located at Dallas’ historic Reverchon Park beginning at 6:00 P.M., and also features the Gant &Hicks Bill Blair $1,000 Scholarship Award, which is presented to the Most Valuable Player of the game. The scholarship helps honor the legacy of the late Dallas baseball icon, Bill Blair, who played in the Negro Leagues. Legendary W.T. White Head Baseball Coach David Shepherd will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Regular tournament games will begin on Saturday, October 29th with championships set for Sunday, the 30th. Puerto Rico will be making its 8th consecutive appearance with teams in three different age groups. Puerto Rico’s Program Director and Founder, former Atlanta Braves scout Carlos Rivera says “We come to Texas because that is where the best baseball is played.”
San Antonio’s Lights Out Baseball Academy will compete along with nationally known powerhouse programs such as the Dallas Mustangs, Team Citius, DBAT, The Dallas Patriots, The Dallas Tigers and many other prominent programs from across the Metroplex and beyond.
Major sponsors include Chick-fil-A, Chevrolet, Victory Hardball/Phoenix Bats and Buffalo Wild Wings (Lemmon Ave.), whom will host a Saturday Night get-together, open to the public featuring former Texas vs. The World player Braden Webb, now of the Milwaukee Brewers. Event founder, R. Lamar Brooks says, “We’re proud that Chick-fil-A Texas vs. The World not only provides a end of the year opportunity for Metroplex youth to display their sizeable talent, but to also exchange culturally with teams from as far away as Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, which in the end etches a place in their memories that can last a lifetime.” Attendance is free and open to the public.
